A vehicle rear-ended an ambulance on the Long Beach (710) Freeway Sunday, killing a passenger in the car, whose driver was arrested on suspicion of speeding and DUI, authorities said.
Officers were dispatched at about 2:10 a.m. to the crash involving the vehicle and a Long Beach Fire Department BLS unit on the northbound 710 Freeway at Seventh Street.
“Speed and intoxication appear to be factors in the collision,” the Long Beach Police Department reported.
Police said the vehicle rear-ended the ambulance and then struck the center median. A woman inside the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. No one was injured inside the ambulance.
The motorist inside the vehicle was taken to a hospital and subsequently arrested. His condition was not immediately known.
