A vehicle caught fire Wednesday at a Good Hope residence, damaging the carport in which it was parked before crews got the flames under control.

The non-injury blaze was reported at 1:35 p.m. in the 23400 block of Mapes Road, near Phillips Street, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said multiple engine and water tender crews were sent to the location and encountered flames burning within the carport.

Firefighters contained the blaze in 15 minutes, and it was completely under control by 2 p.m., according to officials at the scene.

There were initial reports that an occupant of the property had suffered burn injuries to his hands trying to extinguish the fire, but it was later confirmed he was not hurt.

There was no immediate word on how the vehicle fire started.

Sheriff’s deputies partially closed Mapes where firefighters were working for public safety.
