A suspect was shot to death by a homeowner during an attempted home invasion robbery Saturday morning in Granada Hills, authorities said.

Officers were dispatched at about 5 a.m. to a home in the 11400 block of Swinton Avenue, near Rinaldi Avenue, regarding a “hot prowler” call, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.

Approximately three to four men in their 20s entered the home with the intent to burglarize it, according to a police statement. One of the suspects pointed a weapon at the victim and while the suspects were inside the residence, the victim produced a handgun and a shooting occurred, police said.

One suspect was pronounced dead at the scene and the others fled the scene to an unknown location.

“It’s believed that an additional suspect was injured during the incident, due to a trail of blood located during the investigation,” according to the statement.

Police allegedly recovered a vehicle at the scene, which they believe was used during the crime.

No other injuries were reported. The homeowner, a grandmother and a minor toddler were inside the home at the time.

Anyone with further information about the incident was urged to call 877-527-3247. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or go to www.lacrimestoppers.org.
