A man suspected of domestic violence barricaded himself inside a Hermosa Beach home whose garage caught fire Sunday during the standoff with police.
A 911 call was made to the Los Angeles County Fire Department at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday concerning a man with a gun outside a home in the 600 block of 11th Street near Ardmore Avenue, KTLA5 reported.
Hermosa Beach Police Chief Paul LeBaron told reporters Sunday evening that the suspect’s immediate family, including children, fled the house before authorities arrived.
LeBaron said the only person left inside was the suspect. Officers repeatedly tried to make contact with the man but were unsuccessful, he said.
At around 4:30 p.m. the home’s garage caught fire and threatened to spread to other buildings. Firefighters battled the flames defensively and were able to protect the other homes.
