A report of shots fired in a Glassell Park neighborhood prompted a SWAT team response Friday evening, but the suspect eventually surrendered without incident.
No injuries were reported.
Los Angeles police said shots were reported in the area of West Avenue 31 and Eagle Rock Boulevard shortly after 6 p.m.
Officers established a perimeter in the area and a SWAT team was brought in. Reports from the scene indicated the suspect was on the balcony of a home in the area.
Police said the suspect ultimately surrendered peacefully without any use of force or deployment of tear gas. According to reports from the scene, the suspect may have been suffering from mental health issues and pointed a weapon toward officers on the ground, then toward a police helicopter circling above.
The suspect’s name was not immediately released.
