Los Angeles Police Department officers fatally shot a suspect downtown Saturday.
The shooting occurred at 2:14 p.m. Saturday in the 600 block of Towne Avenue, west of South Central Avenue near Skid Row, according to LAPD Officer Drake Madison.
The officers were responding to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon suspect, Madison said.
Police alleged the possibly intoxicated man was armed with a stick and was threatening employees of a manufacturing business.
Arriving officers encountered him and deployed less-than-lethal munitions prior to shooting him, police said.
Paramedics took the suspect to a hospital, where he died from his injuries, police said.
An officer suffered a small laceration to his hand and was treated at the scene, officials said. It was not immediately clear how he was injured.
An investigation was underway at the scene.
