A 55-year-old man who was lying on a roadway in Palm Springs last night was fatally struck and appears to have committed suicide, police said Wednesday.
The man was struck shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Sunrise Way and East Tahquitz Canyon Way, according to the Palm Springs Police Department. He succumbed to his injuries by the time officers arrived on the scene.
The vehicle involved in the collision was found nearby and the driver subsequently returned to the scene, police said.
“Based on the investigation, it was found the 55-year-old man had been lying in the roadway prior to being struck,” police wrote in a statement. “The PSPD Traffic Division, in conjunction with the coroner’s office, conducted further investigation leading to the conclusion that the incident appears to be a suicide.”
No further information, including the identity of the victim, was immediately available.
