A Riverside County sheriff’s deputy was injured Thursday in a two-vehicle wreck just east of Temecula.

The crash happened about 4:50 p.m. on Highway 79 at Pacific Sunset Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The agency said the sheriff’s patrol vehicle and a car collided, but the circumstances were unclear.

The deputy was trapped inside the unit as a result of the impact, suffering unspecified minor injuries.

County fire crews reached the location minutes later and extricated the lawman. It was not immediately known whether he required hospital treatment.

There was no word on the status of the other driver.

No road closures were implemented due to the collision.

The CHP was handling the investigation.
