Rescue teams continued their search Monday for a 59-year-old hiker who was swept away while trying to cross a river near Heaton Flats Trail.

Investigators received reports of the incident around 9:50 a.m. Saturday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The San Dimas Mountain Rescue Team and L.A. County Fire Department assisted with searching for the woman. She was hiking with friends before losing her footing in the river and was swept away, according to the sheriff’s department.

“Over the past two days, the sheriff’s department has deployed approximately 60 personnel to the scene,” sheriff’s officials said in a statement. “The department has utilized multiple resources to assist in the search, including Moutain Rescue Teams, Special Enforcement Bureau’s EMTs, U.S. Forest Service personnel, air rescue support, and an unmanned aircraft.”

The San Dimas Station encourages the public to use extreme caution when crossing streams, rivers, or creeks because “water is powerful,” even in calmer sections.
