A 28-year-old man who deputies fatally shot in East Los Angeles was identified Monday by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.

The suspect, Martin Sebastian, was armed with a replica firearm, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy Tracy Koerner.

Deputies were called at 9:20 p.m. Saturday to Gage and Eastman avenues where Sebastian was reportedly harassing customers with a metal stick, Koerner said.

The deputies made contact with Sebastian and shot him, according to Koerner.

Sebastian died at the scene, and a replica firearm was recovered, Koerner said.

The circumstances leading up to the shooting were under investigation.

“Investigators from the California Department of Justice responded to the scene and will be handling the investigation regarding the deputy-involved shooting,” the sheriff’s department said in a statement . “The California Department of Justice will provide any further updates regarding this incident.”
