An assault with a deadly weapon suspect who had barricaded himself surrendered Friday after a nearly nine-hour standoff.
Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Compton Station were called at approximately 5:45 p.m. Thursday to the 1200 block of Caldwell Street regarding an armed barricaded suspect, said Lt. David Auner.
The department’s Special Enforcement Bureau was contacted and created a perimeter after the man refused to comply with deputies’ commands to surrender. Deputies then assisted residents from surrounding homes to evacuate the area for their safety, authorities said.
After repeated commands to surrender were ignored, members of the special enforcement bureau deployed non-lethal chemical agents, leading the armed man to surrender at approximately 2:38 a.m. Friday.
Anyone with information about this barricade was asked to call the Compton Station at 310-605-6500. Anonymous callers may call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or send tips to lacrimestoppers.org.
