A fire damaged one unit in a three-story apartment building in Koreatown Wednesday evening, with no injuries reported.

According to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Lyndsey Lantz, 57 firefighters responded to a building in the 200 block of South Berendo Street, near Third Street, two blocks west of Vermont Avenue, around 8:10 p.m. regarding a structure fire in a unit on the second floor of a three-story apartment building built in 1927.

The fire was contained to a single unit, with no additional units in the building threatened. It was extinguished in 15 minutes, Lantz said.

“No injuries were reported, though all 24 units have been evacuated after residents initially sheltered in place,” Lantz said.

As a result of the fire, Berendo and Third streets were temporarily closed in the vicinity of the fire, disrupting traffic.

Lantz said the closure was expected to last for an hour.

It was unclear what may have sparked the fire, and the cause was under investigation.
