An 18-year-old man was shot to death and another person wounded Monday in an attack allegedly perpetrated by a teenager, who was immediately arrested.
The shooting happened about 12:30 a.m. in the 700 block of North Hargrave Street, near East George Street, according to the Banning Police Department.
Lt. Brandon Smith said Darnell Lovings of Banning and another male, whose identity was not disclosed, came under fire while on the sidewalk.
Lovings was fatally wounded, and the other victim suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, according to Smith.
Lovings was pronounced dead at the scene. The other party was taken to a regional trauma center for treatment and is expected to fully recover.
“During the investigation, officers and detectives were able to identify a suspect,” Smith said. “The suspect’s identity will be withheld due to his age. He was located and arrested without incident.”
The lieutenant did not provide a possible motive for the attack.
“At this time, there are no other suspects outstanding that pose a threat to the public,” Smith said.
The alleged shooter was booked into Riverside Juvenile Hall on suspicion of murder.
