A brush fire that erupted Wednesday on a hillside northeast of the Pomona (60) Freeway in Jurupa Valley scorched roughly 15 acres on ranch property before Cal Fire aircraft slowed its progress.

The non-injury blaze was reported about 10:15 a.m. in the area of Lotus and Canal streets, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said multiple engine and hand crews from the county and Riverside Fire Department were sent to the location, encountering flames moving at a moderate rate through medium brush.

Four Cal Fire air tankers and two water-dropping helicopters initiated runs on the brusher that slowed its advance, enabling firefighters to begin establishing tentative containment lines in the largely open space.

The fire was burning upslope, away from residences, and no evacuation orders appeared likely as of 11:45 a.m.

There was no immediate word regarding what might have triggered the brusher.
