A 31-year-old man is heading to prison for three years following his guilty plea to a felony hit-and-run charge stemming from the death of a pedestrian in Indio.

Mark Christian Bravo of Indio pleaded guilty Wednesday to felony hit-and-run involving injury or death and a misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended license. The court found four aggravating factors to be true, according to Riverside County District Attorney’s office spokesperson John Hall.

A sentence-enhancing allegation of committing the crime while on bail was stricken.

He was immediately sentenced to three years in prison.

Bravo fatally struck Anthony Duran, 51, of Indio, with his pickup at the intersection of Monroe Street and Avenue 42 on Feb. 4, 2021. Duran was walking his bicycle across the street when he was struck, according to Indio Police Department Public Information Officer Ben Guitron. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The pickup driver sped away after striking the pedestrian, Guitron said.

Bravo has a previous felony conviction for possession of a controlled substance for sale.
