A man riding a bicycle was fatally struck by a vehicle Friday in Long Beach.
Officers were sent to the area of Seventh Street and Bellflower Boulevard about 5:05 a.m. Friday, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
“Officers discovered an unconscious adult male bicyclist lying on the south sidewalk of Seventh Street,” according to an LBPD statement. “Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and determined the bicyclist deceased.”
The man’s name was not immediately released.
“The preliminary investigation revealed that the bicyclist was traveling eastbound in the number three lane of Seventh Street, when he was struck from behind by a vehicle which was also traveling eastbound in the number three lane,” according to the LBPD.
“The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation,” police said. “At this time, neither speed, distracted driving, nor impaired driving are suspected as being factors in the collision.”
