A man is suing Crypto.com Arena and parent company Anschutz Entertainment Group Inc. regarding injuries he received during a 2023 Drake concert after security employees allegedly attacked him.
Mathew Nexus Miranda’s Los Angeles Superior Court lawsuit alleges battery, negligence and negligent hiring, supervision or retention. He also is suing the still unidentified security company contracted to work the event.
Miranda seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages. His lawsuit states that his attorneys’ investigation into what happened is “ongoing and incomplete.”
An AEG representative did not reply to a request for comment on the suit brought Thursday.
Miranda attended the Drake concert last Aug. 22 and after returning to his seat from the restroom, security workers asked him to get up and also accused him of throwing cups and bottles, the suit states.
The security staff was taking Miranda to a nearby stairway when two of them grabbed him from the back of his shirt and forced him to the floor while the third worker looked on, the suit states. Miranda was kicked four times in the face and left unconscious, according to the complaint.
A friend of Miranda tried to intercede, but the security employees told him to return to his seat, according to the suit.
Miranda was taken to a hospital emergency room for treatment and also suffered emotional distress, the suit states.
Miranda believes that the arena was aware of previous violent encounters involving the same three security workers and other patrons, the suit states.
