Firefighters Friday knocked down a greater-alarm fire at a single-story home in Koreatown and began a search for a dog possibly inside the residence.

Firefighters dispatched at 9:56 a.m. Friday to 953 S. Kenmore Ave., south of San Marino Street, had the blaze out within 19 minutes of the arrival at the residence built in 1901, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.

A man at the home failed at an attempt to search for a dog inside the residence and was overcome by intense heat and smoke. He was treated at the scene for smoke exposure and minor thermal injury. Firefighters continued to search for the man’s dog.

No other injuries were reported and it was no immediately known if the man accepted recommended transportation to a hospital. A cause of the fire was under investigation.
