One person was killed and another was severely injured during a two-vehicle crash in San Jacinto, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department announced Saturday.

The crash was reported around 10:10 p.m. Friday near the intersection of San Jacinto and Esplanade Avenues. Deputies located two vehicles, one of which was overturned. Both of the drivers, the sole occupants of the vehicles, were severely injured and trapped inside their cars, according to the sheriff’s department.

The Riverside County Fire Department also responded and provided medical aid to the drivers after extricating them. Both drivers were rushed to a hospital where one was pronounced dead and the other was listed in stable condition, according to the sheriff’s department.

The drivers were not identified pending notification of next of kin.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known. The department’s San Jacinto Traffic Reconstruction Team assumed the investigation.
