Several Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies Thursday received the MADD Award from Mothers Against Drunk Driving for their efforts to prevent drunken driving.

The deputies receiving the award arrested 373 drivers for driving under the Influence, according to a statement from the department.

“The deputies of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department receiving this award have not only demonstrated exceptional dedication and hard work in promoting road safety but also shown a strong alignment with MADD’s vision of a world where there are no more victims of drunk and drugged driving,” sheriff’s officials said.

The names of the deputies receiving the award were not released.

MADD was founded in 1980 by Candace Lightner after her 13-year-old daughter, Cari, was killed by a drunken driver in the Sacramento suburb of Fair Oaks. The nonprofit organization describes itself as a vocal advocate for stricter sentencing, new laws and new technology to reduce drunken driving.
