A man and woman on electric bicycles with their three children in tow were struck and injured by an allegedly impaired driver who was later arrested, authorities said Monday.

The two adults were riding with the children in bike trailers around 7:35 p.m. Sunday in the 12300 block of Haster Street at Twin Tree Lane when they were struck by a black 2003 Toyota Camry, and the driver left the scene, Garden Grove police Sgt. Nick Jensen told City News Service.

“A nearby witness followed the suspect vehicle and notified officers of its whereabouts as it fled the scene of the collision,” Traffic Investigator John Yergler said in a statement. “Officers located the vehicle, conducted a traffic stop and detained the driver/solo occupant of the vehicle approximately 1.2 miles from the original collision scene.”

One adult and two children were rushed to hospitals in critical condition, Jensen said. One adult and one child were hospitalized with stable vital signs.

The three critically injured patients remained in that condition Monday, while one of the stable patients was released, Yergler said.

The victims were described by Yergler as a 27-year-old man, a 25-year-old woman, two girls and one boy.

The suspect was identified as Ceferino Ramos, 29, of Santa Ana, Jensen said.

“Sobriety tests were administered and the driver was ultimately arrested for suspected DUI and hit-and-run,” Yergler said.

He asked that anyone who witnessed the crash and has any additional information or has video footage call him at 714-741-5772 or email at Johny@ggpd.org.
