An investigation was under way Thursday into a crash in Gardena that left a driver in critical condition, a power pole sheared and some area residents without electricity.
The crash was reported about 12:55 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Budlong and Rosecrans avenues, according to the Gardena Police Department.
According to preliminary findings, a silver Honda Accord was being driven north on Budlong when it slammed into an unoccupied black BMW that was parked on the west curb.
“The impact caused the BMW to collide with a power pole, shearing the pole from the base,” according to Gardena police traffic bureau Lt. Matthew Hassoldt.
The crash damage caused an electrical outage for some residents in the area, Hassoldt said.
The critically injured driver was removed from the Honda and taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, he said. The name, age and gender of that individual was not immediately disclosed.
The Gardena Police Department Traffic Bureau is investigating the crash and asked anyone who may have witnessed it to call 310-217-6122 to speak with Sgt. Victor Gomez or 310-217-6189 to speak with Detective Jose Zamudio.
