A search was continuing Friday for a man believed to have carried out at least two bank robberies in the Palm Desert area, including one on Thursday.
Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station deputies responded at about 12:20 p.m. Thursday to a reported bank robbery in the 73000 Block of Highway 111, according to sheriff’s Sgt. Rovann Cleveland. The suspect had left the scene by the time deputies arrived.
According to Cleveland, an unarmed man believed to be in his 50s approached a teller and demanded an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect was described as 5-foot-10 to 6-feet tall, weighing 150 to 175 pounds and wearing a light-colored baseball cap, dark-colored t-shirt, and dark jeans.
After the suspect received the money, he fled in an unknown direction, Cleveland said. Deputies were unable to locate the suspect after an extensive search, but determined the man “appears to be the same individual” who carried out a June 26 bank robbery on the 72000 block of Highway 111.
No additional information was immediately available.
Anyone with information on the crimes was encouraged to call 911 or contact Investigator Villasenor at the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station at 760-836-1600.
