A fire in an abandoned commercial building in the Panorama City area that formerly housed a Montgomery Ward store was knocked down Monday with no reported injuries.
The fire was reported in the 14600 block of West Roscoe Boulevard about 12:35 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
It took 110 firefighters nearly an hour to fully extinguish the flames.
The firefighters were in a “defensive mode” at the split-level building, which has been the site of previous fires, the LAFD reported.
”Rehabilitation vehicles are arriving on the scene for firefighters, and L.A. Building and Safety has been requested to assess structural integrity,” LAFD spokeswoman Lyndsey Lantz said in a statement.
She added that heavy equipment crew members were also on standby “in the event demolition is required.”
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
