A brush fire along the Foothill (210) Freeway in Tujunga was 90% contained by a line of cleared vegetation Saturday after burning more than 40 acres.

Firefighters responded to the blaze burning along the eastbound side of the freeway near La Tuna Canyon Road around 4:10 p.m. Friday, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Lyndsey Lantz.

“Hot spots are still being managed, and fire companies will be patrolling the area throughout the night,” Lantz said.

The fire’s forward progress was stopped, but “the terrain is quite steep and covered in erosion-preventing wire mesh, which makes this slow and difficult work,” according to a Los Angeles Fire Department statement Saturday morning.

The LAFD and Los Angeles County Fire Department were working on the blaze from the air and on the ground.

The Sunland Boulevard on-ramp, La Tuna Canyon Road off-ramp, and the nos. 3 and 4 lanes of the eastbound 210 were expected to remain closed until noon Sunday. Caltrans was blocking the Sunland Boulevard on-ramp to the eastbound side of the freeway.

No injuries or structure damage were reported. It was unclear what sparked the fire.
