A suspect who allegedly brandished a weapon and fired shots in the Highland Park area engaged in a more than four hour standoff with police Thursday before ultimately surrendering.

Officers were sent to the 6000 block of Delphi Street, west of North Figueroa Street, about 9:20 a.m. Thursday on reports of a man with a gun, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

KNX News reported from the scene that the suspect had fired some shots in the area then retreated into a residence, from which he allegedly fired several more shots. There were no reports of any injuries.

A SWAT team and crisis negotiators were sent to the scene, and the standoff continued into the afternoon.

Shortly before 2 p.m., the LAPD reported that the suspect had surrendered and was taken into custody. The suspect’s name was not immediately released.
