A suspect was fatally shot by an off-duty police officer in North Hills and an investigation into the shooting is underway Friday.
According to CBS 2, an off-duty officer from the Beverly Hills Police Department witnessed an altercation between two people near the Roscoe Boulevard off-ramp of the San Diego (405) Freeway around 8:20 p.m. Thursday.
The off-duty officer was driving by in a Jeep with a companion and saw one of the suspects had a gun and the other was armed with a pipe, according to KABC 7. The officer intervened to break up the fight and at some point the suspect with the gun was shot and killed.
No LAPD officers were involved in the shooting, according to the LAPD.
Sgt. Lynnsey Diamond from the Beverly Hills Police Department told City News Service the LAPD will be handling the investigation of the shooting.
LAPD officers remained at the scene into the early hours of Friday morning and Roscoe Boulevard from the freeway to Chase Street was closed for several hours.
