The Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station released additional information Monday about a motorist who died after striking a tree in Rancho Mirage.

The fatal solo vehicle crash happened at 6:10 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Highway 111 and Paxton Drive, according to a statement. The driver was traveling northbound on Highway 111 when the collision occurred.

From there, the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station Traffic Team responded and assumed the investigation.

The agency declined to give a description of the driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene by Riverside County Fire Paramedics and whose name was withheld prior to next of kin notification. It was unclear if there were any passengers.

The cause of the crash was under investigation. Witnesses were encouraged to contact Deputy Abrego of the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station at 760-836-1600 or the Riverside County Sheriff’s Dispatch at 760-836-3215.
