Sheriff’s investigators were searching Thursday for possible additional victims of a man who arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman on a Metro E (Expo) Line train at the Culver City Station.
Roderick Moore, 27, allegedly assaulted a woman at the station on Sunday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. He was being held in lieu of $210,000 bail, according to jail records.
According to county Supervisor Janice Hahn, the woman was on the train early Sunday morning when she was assaulted near the station. She contacted the train operator through the on-board emergency call system, and the operator stopped the train and located both the woman and the suspect, remaining with them until law enforcement arrived.
“I am so thankful for this brave train operator who took action when one of their passengers needed help,” Hahn said in a statement Thursday. “I’m also glad that law enforcement arrived quickly and took the suspect into custody.
“But once again we’re reminded that we urgently need to prevent violent crime in our system, not simply respond to it. I want our uniformed law enforcement officers assigned to Metro and our transit security officers to be riding our buses and trains, not waiting at stations or in their cars to respond once a crime has been committed.”
Sheriff’s officials said in a statement that “based on the nature of the offenses, detectives believe there may be additional unidentified victims.”
Anyone with information was asked to contacted the sheriff’s Special Victims Bureau at 877-710-5273 or specialvictimsbureau@lasd.org. Anonymous tips can be made through Crime Stoppers at 900-222-TIPS (8477).
