A Los Angeles Fire Department hazmat team was called Saturday to a three-story building in Hollywood, where a locked unit of a second-story self-storage facility was off-gassing an odor detectable by a gas monitor that turned out to be non-hazardous.

The LAFD got the call at 4:17 p.m. Saturday from 5900 W. Hollywood Blvd., at Bronson Avenue, said spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.

Firefighters evacuated a restaurant that occupied the first floor and the rest of the building to await action by the hazmat specialists, Stewart said. SoCal Gas confirmed the readings of the gas monitor.

The specialists gained access to the unit about 5:40 p.m. and discovered the odor came from a cleaning product that posed no hazard, she said.
