Authorities Monday released the name of a toddler who died while with her mother, who survived, in a locked car during the heat wave this weekend in Anaheim.
The victim was identified as 3-year-old Ily Ruiz of Anaheim, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Anaheim officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of Fashion Lane about 4:20 p.m. Friday regarding the emergency, according to Anaheim police Sgt. Matt Sutter.
Investigators were still working to determine how the two got locked into the car, but a family member had to smash a window to rescue the girl as temperatures reached 104 degrees, Sutter said. It would have been a great deal hotter in the vehicle, Sutter added.
The mother was taken to an area hospital, where she was expected to be released sometime Monday.
