A brush fire quickly scorched nearly 300 acres and prompted evacuation warnings in Trabuco Canyon Monday, but no injuries were immediately reported.

The Airport Fire began Monday afternoon near Trabuco Canyon Road in the area of the remote-controlled airplane airport. By mid-afternoon, Orange County Fire Authority officials said the blaze had spread to about 292 acres.

A mandatory evacuation order was issued for residents on Meander Lane in the canyon. Evacuation warnings were issued for residents of Rose Canyon Road, Trabuco Creek Road, Trabuco Canyon Road, Trabuco Oaks Drive, Joplin Loop and Cook’s Corner.

There was no immediate word on what sparked the fire, which burned amid continuing heat-wave and elevated fire-danger conditions.
