Detectives Thursday were working to identify possible suspects in a deadly attack on a 27-year-old man in the Santa Ana River bottom in Jurupa Valley.
Jose Guadalupe Diaz of Riverside was discovered dead along the dry riverbed, in the area of Clay Street and General Road, shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Sgt. Rafael Victorio said Diaz suffered “significant injuries” that proved fatal.
Victorio did not disclose the specific cause of death, or the approximate amount of time the victim’s body was there before it was discovered.
“There have been no arrests … as investigators are still working to identify the suspect or suspects involved,” the sergeant said.
The river bottom is replete with homeless encampments, but it was unclear whether Victorio was staying in one.
