Questions remain Sunday after a man was stabbed to death in broad daylight in Beverly Hills amid an attack on a man who was with his young daughter at the time.

The stabbing occurred at about 2:50 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of Spalding Drive, just east of the intersection of Santa Monica and Wilshire boulevards, according to a statement from the Beverly Hills Police Department.

The wounded man was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he died, police said. No details were released regarding his identity, and as of early Sunday afternoon police had not confirmed that the dead man was the same man who perpetrated the attack. Police did say, however, that the other man was cooperating with the investigation.

Witnesses told reporters that a man attacked another man who was walking across the street with his wife and a toddler and tried to grab the girl. A third man witnessed then scene while driving and came to the victim’s aid. That man told reporters that the suspect then attempted to pull his dog from the vehicle.

“He’s in the car. I’m punching him. I can see his face and he’s just not present,” the man told ABC7. “He was clearly having a psychotic break or something, some kind of drug reaction.”

The vehicle came to a stop with its front end in some hedges.

The suspect reportedly then turned his attention to an apartment building and started banging on windows before police arrived and took him into custody.

The investigation was ongoing, police said.
