A man was struck and killed while attempting to cross the Harbor (110) Freeway in South Los Angeles, authorities said Thursday.

California Highway Patrol officers responded at 8:35 p.m. Wednesday to the southbound freeway and Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, where they found the pedestrian in the HOV lane, CHP Officer Sean Lough told City News Service.

Marquis Ray, 30, who was homeless, died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.

The southbound 110 Freeway was closed for nearly three hours while the CHP investigated the collision.
