A person was found dead Thursday at the scene of a fire in the south Los Angeles area, and an investigation was underway.
Firefighters were sent to the 500 block of East Vernon Avenue shortly after 5 a.m. “to a reported tree fire,” the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.
“Firefighters located the tree in a larger area of rubbish and located one deceased person,” the LAFD said in a statement. “Circumstances around the death are unclear at this time and will be investigated, per protocol by LAFD Arson and LAPD.”
The death was being investigated as “suspicious,” the Los Angeles Police Department reported. Information was not immediately available on the person’s identity or cause of death.
