Firefighters Monday extinguished flames that engulfed a vacant, two-story commercial building in downtown Los Angeles, and no one was hurt.
The fire was reported at 3:57 a.m. at 1350 S. Flower St., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Margaret Stewart.
Flames were through the roof when firefighters arrived, she said.
“With over 80 firefighters on scene at the peak of the battle, crews extinguished the fully involved building in two hours and 33 minutes with no injuries reported,” Stewart said in a statement.
“This will remain an active incident through the morning while crews continue to conduct overhaul operations,” the statement added.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
Metro suspended train service on the A and E Lines in downtown Los Angeles due to the fire, which was near the tracks.
“Metro is operating shuttle bus service for both A and E Line customers between 7th Street/Metro Station, Pico Station, LATTC/Ortho Institute Station and Grand Stations for the next several hours,” Metro said in a statement at about 9 a.m. Monday. “Regular updates will be posted on Metro’s Service Alert Twitter Account at twitter.com/MetroLAalerts.”
