Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters knocked down a fire at a building near University Park in South Los Angeles Wednesday.

Firefighters were called at 4:05 a.m. to 1480 W. 23rd St. and Vermont Avenue, south of the Santa Monica (10) Freeway, where they encountered the blaze, said LAFD spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the unit where it started, preventing it from spreading to other exposed buildings.

It took 46 firefighters 41 minutes to extinguish the fire and no injuries were reported.
