Orange County prosecutors Friday dismissed charges against a 46-year-old Santa Ana man, who had been accused of sexually assaulting an underage girl in Santa Ana.
David Escobar was a Saddleback High School safety officer when he was charged two years ago with two felony counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and oral copulation with force or fear, according to court records. The allegations date back to mid-May 1999, according to court records.
It was unclear from court records why the case was dismissed Friday. Messages left with the defendant’s attorney, Joseph P. Smith, were not immediately returned.
Kimberly Edds, a spokeswoman for the District Attorney’s Office, said, “We received additional information that resulted in us determining that we could no longer prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.”
A woman came forward two years ago to Santa Ana police, alleging Escobar molested her multiple times when she was 4, police said. Escobar was 20 years old at the time, according to police.
