A motorist suspected of running over and killing a 53-year-old woman walking on a Menifee street was out of custody Tuesday.
Miguel Angel Castillo, 28, of Menifee was arrested and booked into the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta Monday night on suspicion of hit-and-run resulting in great bodily injury or death.
Castillo posted a $75,000 bond and was released a few hours later.
He allegedly killed Lucia Delgado of San Bernardino shortly before 7 a.m. Sunday on McCall Boulevard, just west of Aspel Road, according to the Menifee Police Department.
Agency spokesman Chase Coburn said that Delgado was “in the roadway, in westbound lanes” when the suspect allegedly plowed into her while traveling at an unconfirmed speed in his Honda Pilot.
“The driver failed to remain on scene and fled the area,” Coburn said.
Another motorist who came upon Delgado lying in the four-lane corridor called 911, he said.
Riverside County Fire Department paramedics arrived less than 20 minutes later and pronounced the victim dead at the scene, according to Coburn.
Detectives developed undisclosed leads Monday afternoon that pointed to the suspect. When they went to his residence on Wilkes Drive, they located his Honda “with significant collision damage consistent with the (hit-and-run),” Coburn said.
Castillo was taken into custody without incident.
Background information on him was unavailable.
