A 32-year-old Moreno Valley man suspected of threatening to harm local political figures and public safety officers was being held Thursday on $1 million bail.
Jesse William Wykel was arrested and booked into the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta Tuesday night on suspicion of making criminal threats and obstructing a law enforcement officer
Wykel’s case was under review Thursday by the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office.
According to sheriff’s Sgt. Robert Martinez, on Tuesday morning, complaints were received at the agency’s Moreno Valley station alleging the suspect had made “threats that were specific and targeted (against) city politicians and officials by name.”
Undisclosed sheriff’s personnel were also among those threatened, Martinez alleged.
He did not reveal exactly what Wykel allegedly stated, or what might have prompted the behavior
Detectives tracked the suspect to a residence in the 12000 block of Bluntleaf Court, just south of the Moreno Valley (60) Freeway, where he was taken into custody, according to the sergeant.
Background information on Wykel was unavailable.
