A 30-year-old man was pleaded guilty Monday and was immediately sentenced to six years in prison for an alcohol-related collision that killed a motorcycle rider in Santa Ana.
Mario Celestino Torres pleaded guilty to killing 44-year-old Flor Mecon Granados of Santa Ana in a collision just before 3 a.m. April 11 at Bristol Street and Segerstrom Avenue, police said.
Torres was driving a 2024 Mazda that rear-ended the motorcycle driven by Granados, police said. Both vehicles were northbound on Bristol Street at Segerstrom Avenue when the car crashed into the motorcycle, police said.
Torres pleaded guilty to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. As part of the plea deal, a felony charge was dismissed for driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury with a sentencing enhancement for inflicting great bodily injury on the victim.
Torres has 584 days credit behind bars since his arrest.
