A 44-year-old inmate housed at the Intake Release Center in Santa Ana has died in jail, authorities said.
The death was reported just before 9 a.m. Saturday at the IRC located at 550 N. Flower St. in the downtown area, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Correctional staff attempted life-saving measures after finding the inmate unresponsive in his cell, but he was later pronounced deceased.
The inmate was booked into jail on July 9, 2024, by the Newport Beach Police Department for driving under the influence and a probation violation, the OCSD stated.
His identity was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Authorities said there were no suspicious circumstances, and the final cause of death will be determined following toxicology testing and an independent autopsy.
