A 31-year-old man who was struck and killed by a car as he was crossing the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway in Castaic on foot was identified Wednesday.

Officers responded to a hit-and-run call around 8:10 p.m. Tuesday and found a pedestrian lying on the freeway near the Parker Road exit, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics.

The Los Angeles County Office of Medical Examiner later identified the victim as Gabriel DeJesus.

Authorities said the pedestrian appeared to be crossing lanes on foot when he was struck.

The vehicle involved in the crash was described as a Toyota Corolla between 2014 and 2019 of unknown color, which fled the scene as it continued northbound on the freeway.
