Police recovered two firearms from two alleged prohibited possessors in Long Beach, the police department said Friday.
Officers from the Long Beach Police Department conducted a traffic stop in the 900 block of East Via Carmelitos at 5:15 p.m Thursday and as they attempted to stop the vehicle, one of the two suspects ran away while the second man remained inside the vehicle, police said.
The suspect who ran away was detained after a brief chase and during their investigation, officers recovered two firearms.
The investigation is ongoing, police said.
Prohibited possessors are not allowed to own, possess, transport, or receive firearms or ammunition. Some of the criteria for prohibited possessors include, according to the U.S. Dept of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, anyone convicted in any court of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year; anyone who is a fugitive from justice; anyone who is an unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance (as defined in section 102 of the Controlled Substances Act, codified at 21 U.S.C. – 802), anyone who has been adjudicated as a mental defective or has been committed to any mental institution; anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence and who is subject to a court order restraining the person from harassing, stalking, or threatening an intimate partner or child of the intimate partner.
