Felony charges are expected to be filed Tuesday against two men suspected of perpetrating a series of retail thefts in Moreno Valley that resulted in losses to the targeted businesses of more than $20,000.
Jesus Miguel Robles, 47, and MacLean Andrew Short, 35, both of Moreno Valley, were arrested and booked into the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta Wednesday night on suspicion of grand theft, shoplifting, organized retail theft and possession of controlled substances. Short was additionally booked for alleged probation violations.
Each man is being held on $500,000 bail.
Their case was under review by the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office on Friday.
According to sheriff’s Sgt. Leondre Radford, in September, the suspects allegedly targeted “multiple businesses” throughout Moreno Valley, stealing a variety of goods and inflicting losses on the outlets that totaled about $22,000.
Detectives reviewed evidence gathered from the establishments, culminating in the identification this month of the two alleged perpetrators — Robles and Short — Radford said.
He said that on Wednesday afternoon, search warrants were obtained and served at the men’s residences and other locations, where alleged stolen goods were recovered, “including high-end sunglasses, electric scooters and various other items linked to the organized theft ring.”
The suspects were taken into custody without incident.
Background information on the pair was unavailable.
