An investigation was underway Friday into the homicide death of an inmate at the California State Prison, Los Angeles County in Lancaster.
The inmate, identified as 41-year-old Joshua Kerr, was found mortally wounded inside his cell at 12:18 p.m. Thursday, according to state corrections officials.
Kerr was found unresponsive with multiple wounds, officials said. Those wounds were not described. Efforts to revive him with CPR were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead by a prison doctor.
Kerr was sentenced in Orange County to 18 years in prison for second-degree attempted murder, street gang act in commission of a violent felony and second-degree robbery, officials said. His sentence was increased twice when he assaulted fellow prisoners.
