Santa Ana police officers rescued a man from a burning converted garage Saturday before firefighters arrived to put out the flames.

The fire was reported at 2:14 a.m. Saturday in the 800 block of South Flower Street, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.

Firefighters prevented the flames from spreading from the detached garage to the nearby house.

Paramedics treated a man with severe burns who escaped through a door the police officers forced open, fire officials said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
