Felony charges are expected to be filed Wednesday against a 31-year-old man suspected of killing a family member at her Menifee home.

Vicente Ortiz of Menifee was arrested and booked into the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on Friday on suspicion of murder. Ortiz is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.

The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office was reviewing the case Tuesday.

Menifee Police Department Lt. Paul Barbieri said that shortly after 6 p.m. Friday, patrol officers were sent to the residence of 60-year-old Dixie Ortiz in the 27000 block of Adams Avenue to investigate reports she had fallen and was injured.

When the officers reached the location, they found the victim “lying unresponsive on the floor with blood on her face,” Barbieri said.

Paramedics arrived moments later and pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

Homicide detectives were summoned and took over the investigation, confirming Ortiz had been stabbed one time, according to the lieutenant.

Detectives identified Vicente Ortiz, whose exact familial ties to the victim were not immediately disclosed, as the alleged perpetrator and took him into custody without incident at the property.

A possible motive was not provided.

Background information on the suspect also was unavailable.
