Seven people were arrested for allegedly selling tobacco products to minors following a sting operation in Cathedral City, authorities announced Thursday.

Officers from the Cathedral City Police Department conducted an operation targeting 36 tobacco retailers using a police employee under the age of 21 to catch retailers selling illegal tobacco products to minors, according to the department.

Authorities said five of the seven products sold to the decoy were illegal flavored nicotine vapes.

Funding for the sting was awarded from a California Department of Justice grant in support of conducting tobacco-related enforcement operations and tobacco sale education.

Anyone with information regarding illegal tobaccos sales in Cathedral City was urged to contact Sgt. Rick Osborne at 760-202-2448, or at rosborne@cathedralcity.gov.
